CHESSMEN UNIT

NEW!

Functionally the chessmen should be weighted.  The purpose of The Parke System is not to make projects, but to provide experiences with materials and processes.  The large weights are made by sand casting and the small ones are permanent mold cast.

A rack holds all of the chess pieces in an upside down position.   A slow drying plaster is mixed and poured into the molds to partially fill them, the weights are put in and the pieces are topped off with more plaster.  After the plaster has dried, excess plaster is removed using a wet sponge, or piece of wet carpet.

The racks are $80.00.  Each rack holds a full set of chessmen.

FOR SCHOOLS NOT USING CHESS WEIGHTS:  Use Portland cement to weight the chess pieces.  To weight using Portland cement,  immerse the chess pieces in water, take them out immediately,  put them in the rack, mix the cement and pour it in.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE WEIGHTS IS LISTED
AFTER THE CHESSMEN.

COMMENTS ON ORDERING:
1.  Two models of cutters are used to cut the inserts for the checkers.   One
is to be used with a mallet, the other is to be used in a special arbor press.
The arbor press is strongly recommended.  The arbor press is also used
with the key chain and the checkers.  One press per lab is usually enough.

2.  The cutting edges last longer when using the arbor press
